Break the Loop: Group Therapy for Intentional Habits

Weekly Schedule: Thursdays, 5-6 PM | Virtual

Facilitated by Heather Hamilton, LMHC-D & Ben Dameron, LMSW

“You are allowed to be both a masterpiece and a work in progress.”

- Sophia Bush

Reclaim Agency. Live with Intention.

If you find yourself relying on behaviors like scrolling, drinking, smoking, overworking, or checking out just to get through the day, you’re not alone. These patterns often begin as ways to cope—but over time, they can leave you feeling disconnected from yourself and from how you want to live.

This group is for people who want to relate to these patterns differently. Not necessarily to eliminate them, but to understand them—and begin to shift them with intention. You don’t need to identify as an “addict” or be in crisis. You may simply sense that something is off—that your habits aren’t aligned with your values, energy, or direction.

Together, we explore patterns across substance use, technology, and everyday coping habits. In a group setting, change doesn’t happen in isolation—it happens in connection. Through shared reflection and support, we begin to understand what’s driving these patterns and create changes that are meaningful and sustainable.

As these patterns shift, space opens up—space to reconnect with what matters: your priorities, your relationships, and your sense of purpose.

This is a place to slow down, reflect, and recalibrate—so your choices feel more aligned not only with how you want to live, but with who you are becoming.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Do I have to talk about my addictive behaviors in detail?

No. You only share what feels safe and comfortable.
Many people worry they’ll have to reveal specifics, but the group focuses more on patterns, emotions, and underlying drivers, not on recounting explicit behavior.

You’ll never be pushed to disclose more than you want to.

If your patterns are affecting your focus, sleep, self-trust, relationships, or emotional wellbeing, even subtly, this group is appropriate.
You do not need a formal diagnosis, a history of addiction, or a crisis-level struggle.

This group is for people who want to understand why they do what they do and regain agency over their choices.

No.
Everyone in the room is navigating some version of compulsive or avoidant behavior, even if the expressions differ.
The tone of this group is warm, grounded, and nonjudgmental. You are met as a human being, not a set of habits.

Most people who join this group feel shame, secrecy, or embarrassment at first.
One of the most healing aspects of group therapy is discovering that your struggles make sense, not because you’re weak, but because these behaviors were serving a purpose at some point.

Shame tends to dissolve in community, not in isolation.

Not at all.
You don’t have to be “ready to quit,” and you don’t need to know what change looks like yet.

The group helps you explore what you’re doing, why you’re doing it, and what you truly want. Then, you can choose your next steps with more clarity.

No.
This group is not rooted in abstinence unless that is your personal goal.
We focus on understanding patterns, reducing harm, and increasing internal agency.
Your relationship to the behavior is what matters, not whether you’ve eliminated it entirely.

Yes.
Group therapy is uniquely powerful for breaking patterns because:

  • You hear others’ stories that mirror your own
  • You gain tools and accountability
  • You feel less alone
  • You practice honesty and vulnerability
  • You learn emotional regulation in real time

Most people find group work accelerates insight and reduces shame far faster than working alone.

That’s completely normal and very common.
You can participate at your own pace. Listening quietly is a valid and valuable form of involvement.

Over time, people usually find that the group becomes a safe place to practice expressing themselves without pressure.

You’re still in the right place.
This group encompasses all forms of compulsive coping, including:

  • Social media spirals
  • Pornography and fantasy
  • Gaming
  • Emotional eating
  • Shopping
  • Workaholism
  • Subtle substance patterns

The behavior is just the surface. The emotional pattern underneath is what we work with.
