Find Treatment for Brain Fog and Other Long Covid Symptoms

Acheron therapists have developed expertise in post-acute Covid-19 syndrome (PACS), also called Long Covid. Ongoing symptoms after a Covid-19 infection often include “brain fog,” which can be serious enough to interfere with quality of life and daily functioning. Brain fog is a constellation of symptoms affecting attention, focus, working memory, and processing speed. The phenomenon is also associated with medical conditions involving chronic neuroinflammation as well as with chronic fatigue syndrome and mild traumatic brain injury (TBI). Cognitive rehabilitation strategies address both the cognitive and emotional aspects of this brain fog in individuals experiencing the long-term effects of Covid-19.

Acheron is conveniently located in lower Manhattan, near the Financial District, Tribeca, City Hall, Battery Park City, and other downtown neighborhoods. Our beautiful offices are easy to reach by multiple subways and buses from anywhere in New York City and surrounding areas. Contact us for a free consultation and find out how one of our therapists can help with Long Covid and brain fog.

Long Covid Treatment

At Acheron, we provide both neuropsychological testing and neurocognitive treatment in one seamless experience—so you can receive all your neurocognitive care in one place.

Our neuropsychological evaluations help clarify cognitive difficulties in the areas of attention/concentration, memory, problem solving, language, and emotional regulation — and provide a clear path forward. Led by board-certified neuropsychologist Dr. Taylor Armstrong, each evaluation can provide critical insights into an individual’s cognitive, emotional, and behavioral functioning, and help differentiate between neurological and psychological contributors to symptoms.

In completion, clients receive a comprehensive report that outlines cognitive strengths, areas for growth, contributing factors to cognitive challenges, and tailored treatment suggestions.

This diagnostic clarity from neuropsychological testing can be used to guide neurocognitive treatment—including Cognitive Remediation Therapy (CRT), CRT with ketamine (CRT-K), or another targeted intervention within our integrated neurocognitive program. We move with you from assessment to action, so you don’t waste time stuck in the system.  These services can also occur separately so that you can choose according to your needs.

Frequently Asked Questions

what to know about long covid

Long COVID refers to ongoing symptoms that continue weeks or months after a Covid-19 infection. It is formally known as Post-Acute Sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 (PASC), commonly called Long COVID.

We don’t know what causes some people to develop Long Covid, but research is ongoing. Some of the suspected reasons are:

  • Ongoing inflammation
  • Immune system changes
  • Reduced blood flow or oxygen to the brain
  • Autonomic nervous system dysfunction
  • Sleep disturbances and fatigue
  • Stress related to illness or recovery

What is brain fog, and what are the symptoms?

One of the most common problems after a Covid-19 infection is called “brain fog.” That refers to the problems with thinking, memory, and concentration that can continue long after the original illness. Symptoms include:

  • Difficulty concentrating or staying focused
  • Memory issues/forgetfulness
  • Slower thinking or processing information
  • Trouble finding words
  • Mental exhaustion
  • Feeling confused or overwhelmed

The brain fog of Long Covid is not permanent, but it can last for weeks or months after the original illness. The length of time that symptoms last is different for everyone. If you are still experiencing brain fog symptoms more than a month after you were ill, you should consider seeking treatment.

Treatment for post-Covid brain fog is not one-size-fits-all. Acheron therapists develop personal strategies for each individual, which may include cognitive remediation techniques as well as individual or group psychotherapy. It’s important to address symptoms of brain fog in a holistic way, respecting the physical and emotional components of the illness.
