Self Care - Because Adulting is Hard

Have you ever caught yourself saying, “I can’t adult today?” You’re not alone. Many people feel stressed, burned out, and stretched too thin. And while self-care is often promoted as bubble baths and skincare routines, true well-being goes far beyond pampering your skin.

If dropping $150 on skincare every week isn’t in your budget, don’t worry - self-care isn’t just about extensive products. There are plenty of other ways to prioritize your well-being and a self-care routine.

Self-care comes in many forms - it is not limited to youthful skin. At its core, self-care means taking time for yourself in ways that bring you joy and relaxation. It could be as simple as going for a walk on a sunny day, taking a nap in the warmth, buying an ice cream cone, or savoring a slow Sunday morning with coffee and a good book. Maybe you are a proud plant parent, finding peace in watering your plants and watching them grow. These small moments are just for you - and that is what true self-care is all about.

Saying no is self-care, too. If you’re invited to dinner and drinks, but feel drained and need a reset, it’s okay to choose rest instead. Curling up on the couch with takeout can be just as fulfilling.

Self-care is also about reconnecting with joy - especially the things that once made you happy. Tap into your childhood interests - did you love coloring, puzzles, or crafting? Dust off that coloring book, start a puzzle, or take a knitting class at the library. Find something that is just for you: no expectations, no pressure, just joy.

It is so important to slow down and calm your nervous system. In today’s fast-paced world, we are constantly overloading ourselves with stress, anxiety, and endless responsibilities, both at work and in our personal lives.

Prioritizing self-care isn’t a luxury; it’s a necessity. There are so many benefits to self-care, including:

  • Enhanced mental, emotional and physical well-being

  • Greater adaptability and resilience

  • Stronger, more fulfilling relationships

  • Increased productivity and focus

By making space for rest and recharge, you’re investing in your overall health and happiness.

While a spa day or facial can be a great treat, true self-care comes from the small, intentional moments that help you slow down throughout your day or week. Prioritizing these moments nurtures your mind, body, and nervous system in a lasting way.

There is only one you, so take the time for yourself and find the things in life that truly bring you peace.
