Conventional and psychedelic approaches

Medication Management

Flexible and personally tailored conventional, integrative, and psychedelic medication management solutions for a host of common and distressing psychological symptoms. It is not uncommon for patients to approach their medication management with specific ideas about what they want and do not want from treatment.

Whether you wish to avoid potentially habit-forming medications due to a concern about substance abuse, or are concerned about certain side effects, we always work with you to find the happy medium between skilled guidance toward effective change, and following the lead of your preferences.

Our deepest truths are never what we tell ourselves. Hiding in plain sight, they are waiting to be discovered.

INDIVIDUAL PSYCHOTHERAPY

At Acheron, we believe psychotherapy can provide the supportive environment necessary for a sacred, spiritual, developmental and healing journey. We view the symptoms that brought you here as an invitation from deeper parts of you that are longing for more.

Symptoms have many meanings to disclose and (like dreams) are a royal road to self-discovery and self-integration.

While the rising popularity of therapy is on the whole a positive development, many treatment approaches focus on eliminating symptoms without any real exploration of the meaning or purpose behind them. The current trend within psychotherapy is to target thoughts and behaviors, without regard to the human soul who is experiencing suffering. The result is that the symptoms often return or new symptoms arise, a messenger in a different cloak sent from deeper/hidden/unconscious parts of the psyche.

We can help:

Individual psychotherapy is probably the single most important component of mental health treatment. A judgment-free/safe, empathic, attuned clinical atmosphere that is versed in the unique language of unconscious processes unfortunately can be difficult to find, but this is just what Acheron prides itself on offering.

Starting at the place in you that is seeking relief, together we will engage in the difficult and joyful process of clinical healing, enabling those who suffer and all truth-seekers to become more calm and less tense, more reflective and rational, and to achieve internal freedom.

  • All symptoms of:

    • Mood (ex. depression)

    • Anxiety (worries, bodily anxiety, PTSD symptoms, OCD, thought disorder)

    • Attentional disorders

    • Personality disturbance

    • Related to problems of living

Group Psychotherapy

At Acheron, we believe psychotherapy can provide the supportive environment necessary for a sacred, spiritual, developmental and healing journey. We view the symptoms that brought you here as an invitation from deeper parts of you that are longing for more.

We are particularly proud of our group psychotherapy offerings and their value for our patients. They answer the demands of often ignored clinical truths: the shadow side of the personality can emerge strongest (e.g., as social anxiety) — and thus be made amenable to treatment — by group participation. Group psychotherapy provides a unique context for connecting with and relating to others, including in their suffering, at the deeper level afforded only by the clinical milieu.

As a recommended option for interested patients, our safe, professionally-guided, imaginative and engaging group psychotherapy programs supplement individual treatment for optimal growth, healing, and wellness.

We can help:

At Acheron, our group psychotherapy programs are thematically diverse and can be chosen based on patients’ specific interests. As a psychological stress test that may particularly ripen the atmosphere for clinical change, and as a laboratory for challenging harmful conventions, group psychotherapy is a critical part of treatment, as well as a wonderful, even sacred, opportunity to connect with, relate to, and heal others.

  • Group therapy programs at Acheron are in the psychodynamic tradition. Aside from the expectation of consistent attendance at a designated time (and respectful, appropriate behavior toward others), they are non-didactic, open-ended, and expressive.

The goal of all of the groups is for participants to make progress in being their authentic selves among and with others who are endeavoring the same.

Our patients are free to choose a group (depending on availability) that addresses a specific problem area that appeals to their interest and concern, which may serve as a springboard for discussion and promote relatability among participants.

  • Please Contact us for current group availability. Group psychotherapy at Acheron is a covered service for in-network patients.

Psychodynamic psychotherapy group (virtual and in-person), Mondays 7-8:30 pm

Psychodynamic psychotherapy group for women (virtual and in-person), Thursdays 4:30-6 pm
